Compensation attaches to the departure airport. On a return trip that usually means the outbound leg qualifies and the inbound doesn't — check each leg separately.
If your route isn't covered, the Montreal Convention still makes Kenya Airways liable for the documented losses its delay caused you — hotels, meals, missed connections, prepaid bookings.
