Where you were flying decides everything with Delta Air Lines. A flight departing the EU or UK is covered by EU261 or UK261 — fixed cash compensation, regardless of the airline's nationality, and that is a claim we take on. A US domestic flight is not: US rules set no fixed compensation for delays or cancellations, so there is nothing for us to recover for you. We will tell you which of the two you have before you give us anything.

Fixed compensation attaches to the departure airport, not your nationality or where you bought the ticket. A return trip usually means only the outbound leg from Europe qualifies.
If your flight was US domestic, you still have rights worth using: a cancelled or significantly changed flight you didn't take must be refunded in cash, not vouchers, and involuntary denied boarding pays up to 400% of your fare (capped at US$2,150). We don't handle those claims, but you can pursue Delta Air Lines yourself and complain free to the Department of Transportation at transportation.gov/airconsumer if they refuse.
